Europeans began to explore the east coast of Maryland as early as 1524. For over 200 years, what's now known as Ocean City, Maryland, remained vastly uninhabited. As time passed, the eastern shore grew in popularity as a place to relax, fish, and collect seashells. Today, we go "down the ocean" for all of the same reasons.
