During prohibition, Route One through Howard County was the main route for bootleggers running south from Baltimore. As the chases began to heat up by the federal agents, the rum-running bootleggers got smarter. Many began to use smoke screens to blind the agents while they sped away. Our Route One Dark Rum tips a hat to the spirit of those fast drivers. Made with dark brown sugar processed at one of the oldest manufacturing plants in Maryland, rested on charred American White Oak, this dark rum is full of complexity, flavor, and attitude.
Tasting Notes:
Our Route One Dark Rum is a grand experiment of flavor and complexity. Opening with a tingle of a bold warm caramel and light vanilla notes, it slowly bursts into charred oak and more complex baking spices. Made from Dark brown sugar, those deep molasses notes linger with a hint of sweet honey and dried fruit. While built to enjoy in a cocktail, Route One still carries enough complexity, engaging mouthfeel, and sweet flavorful finish that it can be sipped neat.
